About Us
Hi, my name is Gene Simpson, I was born in New Mexico in 1947, moved to San Diego, California in 1960, then to the desert community of Borrego Springs, California in 1961, when I was in 8th grade. There was no high school in Borrego at that time, so when I graduated from 8th grade, (actually a combination 7th- 8th grade class, located at the only elementary school in town), I commuted on a bus from Borrego to Julian High School in Julian, California, 35 miles away. I did that for 4 short years, I say short because those years really did seem to fly by, and besides, I was able to get all my homework done on the bus ride home.
After high school, I attended Palomar Junior College for two years, and then transferred to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where I studied landscape architecture and ornamental horticulture for three more years.
I spent some time in Hawaii, working as a waiter and a cook in a Mexican restaurant, moved back to Borrego in 1973, where I met Susie Fisk, a first grade school teacher. After a short engagement, Susie and I were married in June of 1974 and still going strong after 35 years.
I worked as an electrician and a school bus driver in the early years of our marriage and then went into the construction trade in 1977 as a carpenter, and have been a general contractor since 1993. I also coached high school wrestling and Little League baseball and did my duty as a Little League umpire while my two daughters Jennifer and Jessica were growing up. Jennifer now lives in Beaverton, Oregon. Jessica lives in Borrego Springs, with her husband Daniel, and our three grandchildren, Jeremiah, Danica, and Janessa. I have another daughter, Michele, who lives with her two boys and my two grandsons, Julian and Ben, in Seattle, Washington.
I was introduced to the SevenFoot PorchSwing about three years ago by my friend Daniel Russell, who brought the idea of manufacturing and selling the porchswing, to California from Alabama. We started a partnership, and began building the SevenFoot PorchSwing, and distributing it by way of the internet. Since that time Daniel got married to Catherine and has relocated to Canada, where they are living happily. But that didn’t stop me, I decided to continue on with the business of selling the SevenFoot PorchSwing , which is actually more than just a porch swing. It is a way or life at our house. A place where you can go and just sit and have a cup of coffee or tea and relax, or if you want to take a nap there is plenty of room to lie down and do that also. I am talking about a SevenFoot PorchSwing , prefinished with a very comfortable 6” foam mattress that I know you will love.
