My name is Gene Simpson and I have lived in the Southern California desert community of Borrego Springs since 1960. When my family moved here, there was no high school, so fifty of the local kids were bused to the closest high school in Julian, Ca.
I am happily married to the same beautiful lady for 36 years. My wife Susie taught first grade until her retirement two years ago, now she is even busier watching the grandkids, substituting at the local elementary school and crocheting blankets and making quilts for friends and family. God has been gracious to us…we live in a beautiful place and enjoy a wonderful, fulfilling life together.
I have been a carpenter since 1977. I obtained my contractor’s license in 1992 and started my own construction business. My carpentry skills were gained through lots of experience and by studying other skilled carpenters.
I have built several custom homes and done a lot of additions and remodels. Although I also build custom cabinets and furniture, I also build porch swings, the Sevenfootporchswing, to be specific.
The Sevenfootporchswing is unique in that it is larger than the average porch swing, can seat up to four large size adults, or a bunch of kids, and has a mattress, so it can actually be used as a bed.
